The Home Church Model
Introduction
At Providence Reformed Fellowship (PRF), we are a new, growing church committed to glorifying the Triune God by proclaiming the Gospel, making disciples, and building a redeemed community rooted first and foremost in the authority of Scripture. The Bible alone is our ultimate standard for faith, practice, and life (2 Timothy 3:16-17). As we begin, we are starting with one house church that serves as the foundation for our ministry. Our vision is to follow the clear New Testament pattern of small, intimate gatherings in homes, with the long-term goal of planting additional house churches across Southern California and beyond, while using shared facilities for larger events when the time comes.
Biblical Foundation
The early church frequently met in homes for worship, teaching, fellowship, and prayer (Acts 2:46; Romans 16:5; 1 Corinthians 16:19). These small gatherings fostered deep relationships, active participation (1 Corinthians 14:26), and natural multiplication as the Gospel spread (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 14:23). Our current house church reflects this straightforward biblical pattern, providing a relational and accessible way to live out our faith together. As we grow, we plan to plant more house churches while maintaining unity through shared leadership and our commitment to biblical truth.
We hold to the historic 1689 Second London Baptist Confession of Faith as a helpful summary of biblical doctrine—because it faithfully draws out and organizes what Scripture teaches, not because we follow man’s traditions over God’s Word. The Bible remains supreme, and any confession or statement we affirm must stand or fall by its clear teaching.
How It Works (Where We Are Now)
- Our House Church: We currently gather as one small group in a home for weekly worship, Bible teaching, prayer, and shared meals. This intimate setting allows for meaningful fellowship, personal discipleship, and mutual encouragement—all grounded in Scripture.
- Leadership: The group is led by qualified elders who meet the biblical standards (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9) and provide spiritual oversight, teaching, and care in full submission to God’s Word.
- Future Vision: As the Lord grows our community, we will train and appoint additional elders, send out teams to plant new house churches in other homes or neighborhoods, and eventually establish dedicated “Fellowship Centers” for larger network gatherings, baptisms, training, and fellowship.
This simple, Scripture-driven approach keeps us focused on people, the Word, and the Gospel while remaining flexible for growth.
